The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the arts of performing, and which are now known as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her for the "child prodigy" category. For a child with Irish heritage, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family members, this came naturally. Maureen entered this loving sanctuary in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita LIlburn FitzSimons is the mother of her. She was a accomplished contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin and was also the owner of the renowned Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons is the second daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out this wonderful family. Maureen was a fan of rough sports as young and became very good in them. This passion was combined with an equally natural gift for performing. This is why she received almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her home country. At age 14, she had been accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
